Dear Alex: Why we use the symbol "Q" to be rational number, what is the source of the symbol ?

> what is the source of the symbol ? Well, if I had to introduce a rational number, I'd probably name it "r" for rational. I would guess that in somebody's mind "Q" might be associated with Quotient. I do not believe there might be a deeper reason than that.
