Geometric Construction with the Compass Alone

A segment AB is given by its end points A and B. A point C is known to lie outside the straight line AB. Construct a point D symmetric to C with respect to AB.

Solution

Draw two arcs through the point C. One with the center at A, another centered at B. The second point of intersection of these two arcs will be symmetric to C with respect to AB.
